Mission: Northwest Haiti Christian Mission

Missionary Blog: lorianddennisinhaiti.blogspot.com

Haiti occupies the western third of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Haiti gained it’s independence from France in 1804 after a bloody civil war in which the nation pledged 200 years of service to “the spirits” of the island in exchange for victory. As a nation, they have been mostly faithful to that pledge and today about 95% of Haitians practice Voodoo along side of Catholicism. This demonic contract recently expired despite attempts by the government of Haiti to renew it. After 200 years of turbulence and misery, Christianity is starting to grow and gain strength. Still, Haiti is not only the poorest and most politically unstable nation in the western hemisphere, but also one of the darkest places spiritually in the entire world.

The purpose of our mission trip is to provide medical/surgical interventions to heal bodies as a means of gaining an opportunity to introduce patients and their families to Jesus Christ, The Great Physician, who can heal their hearts and souls. The team needs to consist of non-medical people as well as medical people. The non-medical members are needed to pray with the patients and their families as well as the cooking, cleaning and laundry.

NWHCM is located in St. Louis Du Nord in the NW corner of the country. On the compound are a church, medical clinic, birthing center, surgery center, burn center, physical therapy center, school, feeding/nutritional program, pharmacy, medical lab, elderly home and a new born orphanage. Therefore, there are plenty of opportunities to share God’s love and the good news of the gospel outside of the medical field. The greatest thing anyone can do for us is cover us in prayer.
